How do I calculate a dividend yield for options calculations?

I can find the dividend payouts, but doesn’t a yield also take into account when those dividends were paid out so as to take into account their leverage effect on yearly(annual dividend yield) security valuation?

For instance, if I receive a dividend on a dip, and that stock price appreciates, isn’t that dividend worth more than that same amount paid on a high and the stock price going down?

your dividend yield shold represent how much dividend you get and the your basis on the stock. The yield published is a tool that people can use to figure out how a stock is trading, so that yield represents the current price.
